Kyle Trask and the most interesting nickname in the 2021 NFL draft

The first day of the 2021 NFL draft didn’t go quite as planned for the former Florida Gator quarterback Kyle Trask.

As the 23-year-old Texas native was waiting for his call, several other quarterbacks didn’t have to wait any longer than the first round, including Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones. Unfortunately, Trask will now have to wait until the second round to see which team decides to select him.

Perhaps the most interesting story for Trask, is the recent emergence of a rather intriguing nickname — Traskquatch. Yes, you read that correctly. It appears that Kyle Trask has earned himself a nickname that is a mashup of his own last name and Sasquatch that is as fun to say as he is to watch. But just where did this nickname come from?

When asked about the origin of the nickname in a recent interview, former teammate and Orlando native, Daniel Cross said, “It started out as just sort of an inside thing, but once he took over the starting position it really started to grow.”

The nickname seems to be a natural fit for the former Heisman Trophy candidate who is 6’5” and 240 lbs and often compared to Ben Roethlisberger. In fact, many experts are expecting the Pittsburgh Steelers to select Trask as their replacement for the franchise quarterback after this season.

If Trask does make it to Pittsburgh, it seems that Traskquatch might grow to be a hometown favorite. Interesting enough, the Steelers summer training camp home of Latrobe in the Appalachian foothills is a notorious hotspot for the elusive Sasquatch. Does this mean we might start seeing Chewbacca masks at Steelers games? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the second round of the draft tonight.
